Visiting Grand Canyon

Hi all,i am on my way to visit the GC.I'll be coming from New Mexico and heading west on 40.I'm just trying to work out the best way to approach,or the best area to go to to get the best view.Do i go north from Flagstaff and go to Grand Canyon Village or the North Rim etc or keep going west and up to the Lake Mead area?I only have a day or so would just like to hear opinions on the best place to see as much as possible.

I know a day doesn't do a place like this justice but time is pressing and i have to keep on the move.
Any thoughts?

if you are under time pressure take 89N from Flagstaff to Cameron and follow the south rim to Tusayan. Lot of great view points.
North rim would take much longer, and so would Grand Canyon West.
have a great ride

If you've only got a day and you're continuing on I-40 you don't really have any choice. Drive up to the South Rim, wrassle yourself a place to park, and hike one of the trails part way down into the canyon. Try to save sufficient energy (and water) to hike back out, then proceed back to I-40 and onwards.

The North Rim is too far, and Lake Mead will fail to satisfy.

Hope that helps.
