US import duty - help!
Hi all
A mate and I are shipping bikes from the UK into LA later this year. We're just wondering whether we're going to get charged import duty when the bikes land in the US - I don't see why we would cos we already own the bikes?! - can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks very much!! Matt |
You will NOT be charged import duty.
Unless you do something monumentally stupid like a. open your mouth or b. open your mouth and say something like "what's the procedure if I want to sell the bike while I'm here" http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/smile.gif You will never be charged duty entering any country in the Americas. Or anywhere else, assuming, you have a carnet when required or pay the appropriate fees for entry. Border crossing rule #1 - keep mouth shut, only answer as much as absolutely necessary, and NEVER volunteer anything. Border crossing rule #2 - smile a lot no matter what prats they are. Never lose your cool. |
