I'm hoping to do at least the Tennessee portion this spring.

Check out http://www.springtat.com
A lot of good information and we schedule a ride each year.
We are on year two of this event.

There's also a story about riding the Transam Trail, proably for the first time in it's entirety, by Russell Fisher, here on HU http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/tstories/russell/

Lots of good info there.

I had seen this site a few months ago. It looks good from an adventure point of view, and you can choose to ride as long or as short as you want to. The website mentions that he will sell maps state by state, which makes for a convenient trip, and you only need to buy the map you want. Seems to be a decent "investment" provided the maps are detailed and provide up to date info!

Documentary film project - riding the Trans-America Trail

.
Follow along with us this July with our daily “Travelogues” and web-video-diaries as our film crew documents riding the Trans-America Trail. The documentary, “Road Less Traveled”, will follow two brothers as they ride their motorcycles across the 5,000 mile "Trans-American Trail" — an off-road motorcycle adventure traversing the United States on a series of 4x4 trails, fire-roads and single-track trails. The journey begins at the Appalachian Mountains of Tennessee, riding through ten states and countless towns, before finishing at the Pacific Coast of Oregon.

The film will highlight three areas of the journey; the brothers relationship as they ride their motorcycles on 5,000 miles of dirt trails, the Trans-America Trail itself, and the adventures along the way of the local lifestyles and quirks of Small Town, U.S.A.

The idea of the documentary about the Trans-America Trail has been a long-time dream of filmmaker James Beatty – and this July, the dream becomes reality. The documentary is produced by Unseen Voices Productions, in association with Motorrad Media www.motorradmedia.com.

We are very optimistic about filming our documentary and we’re setting our sights high with plans to have the documentary shown on cable networks such as Discovery’s Travel Channel, the OLN Network and the Speed Channel to name a few. In addition to the cable networks will be the sales of DVDs through distribution.

To follow along with us on the trail, visit the “Travelogues” section of the official movie website at: www.roadlesstraveledmovie.com

I realise this is a very vague question but would people think the trail is viable and safe to do alone or would it be safer / advised to do it with one or more other people.

Just looking for people's opinions

Ride safe

Paul
