Touring CO, Montana and Wyoming.... where to buy MC gear?

Hi everyone!

I will be renting a bike from Gunnison (CO) and plan to tour round Wyoming and Montana. Round trip for about 3 weeks.

On the way I would really like to inspect an MC shop for women clothing. I believe the US has much more choice in term of MC gear for women than Europe.
Can someone recommend a place by any chance?

Also suggestions for our tour are most welcome if you know the area well!

Cheers,

What time of year?

After June 15th means you can hit all the great passes in the Rockies.

Paved roads or offroad?

Certainly the 550 million dollar freeway is a must ride south of Gunnison. I would recommend a loop down through Durango, Cortez and west through Canyonlands, Bryce and Zion if you haven't been to southern Utah. Really beautiful area to pass through before heading up to Wyoming and the Tetons, Yellowstone, Chief Joseph highway, up over Beartooth Pass into Montana.

Leather, textile, form fitting or practical motorcycle outfit?

The Harley shops have leather and fringe, the Japanese sport bike shops have form fitting fairly impractical but great looking gear, the off road shops have Scott, Fox and more motocross oriented gear, BMW dealers have high end gear from Rukka, First gear and BMW.

I shop online or through craigslist.org since I live in the boonies. Hopefully someone from rural Colorado will chime in. I should think that there would be the best selection of womens gear in Denver, Boulder, maybe Cheyenne or Billings in your tour area.

Have fun!

Kindest regards,
John Downs

Idaho ?

Try Happy Trails or Big Twin in Boise Idaho. Great Basque communities in Jordan Valley west of Boise. Lots of desert too!

Thanks for the tips.
I am renting 2 V-Stroms and although I was not originally planning to get into Idaho we'll see. We have plenty of time!
We will tour from mid-june to early July so we will do the beartooth highway which is supposed to be awesome!

I am hoping to find decent multi-season touring gear over there for me, maybe the off-road shops will be my best bet.

This website is a good overview with maps of the top 10 scenic rides in the northern Rockies:

Rocky Mountain Vacations- Northern Rockies Travel- Top 10 Scenic Drives

There are many other places not listed but something to give an overview of possibilities in the areas you will be heading. There are so many great places to ride it will be hard deciding. Late June/July is the perfect time to be cranking and banking through the mountain states. Should be fun!

Best,
John Downs

If you are going to be doing the Beartooth highway, I highly recommend going into Yellowstone park. You will want to spend several days there-there is a LOT more than Old Faithful geyser.
There is also an interesting restaurant about 10 km north of West Yellowstone where they serve hamburgers and steaks. You cannot complain to the cook-you cook the hamburger and steak yourself.

I know the area a bit, went to school in Colorado.
Your best bet for big shops will be Colorado I think. With a bit of work I have found Fay Myers Motorcycle World | Denver, Colorado Motorcycle Dealer | Ducati Honda Kawasaki KTM Suzuki Aprilia Motorcycles Buy Sell Used Bikes ATVs and PERFORMANCE CYCLE OF COLORADO DENVER, CO 303-744-2011 They look big at any rate. It may ne best to call around to see if they have what you need. If not http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com and MotorcycleGear.com (the new name of New Enough) :: Motorcycle Jackets, Helmets, Gloves, Boots, Luggage, Parts and More! will get all you need and you may beable to drop ship it at the rental place.
As you are in the area there is Wolfman Wolfman Motorcycle Luggage there in Longmont, Co. now. Then ther is Big Agnes in Steamboad Springs, Co. for all the kit you may need https://www.bigagnes.com/.

To plan a road trip in the USA this may help http://byways.org/ and http://www.roadtripusa.com/index.html.

For rides any of the mountain roads are good. One I like is the San Juan Skyway http://byways.org/explore/byways/2101 it is a loop that starts with US 550. Think you go up to 11,000 feet (3352 meters). Not far off this is the road to Masa Verde if you are in to that.

It's not on your way, but, Aerostich in Duluth Mn would be a great stop. What's a few hundred more miles? Ok, maybe more than a few, but if that is the kind of stuff you are looking for nobody does it better!
