So How did u guys buy and register a vehicle in the US

I am Austrian. What were the procedures, which states, I am trying to buy a car, but procedures should be the same as for a bike. Yes is similar to previous threat but maybe this attracts different answers.

I bought a bike in Oregon, just needed an Oregon address, fill out the title and transfer papers, then they send out the title a few weeks later

No sales tax up here in Oregon, so it only cost me $77USD to do it, where as most other states have sales tax to pay

Montana

Here in montana there is no sales tax and you get a permanent license plate for your bike or for a bit more you can get a permanent one for your older car. The nice part is you can get your permanent title which is proof of ownership and the document you use to sell the vehical to another party.....in one day. Just go to the one state office in the state and they will do all the transfer while you wait.

Bill, can foreigners do this in Montana, or only US nationals? This, I believe, was the question.

Hey Mark I asked this question in Oregon as in the DMV website it states you have to reside in OR to transfer the title, but, they (DMV) wont question what is written on the transfer of the title so you didn't have to prove you were a US national, they just believe you, they may question you but the guy behind the counter seemed to let on they generally don't. I went to another town to transfer the title and registration just in case and all was good

In the state of Georgia, you can not, as foreigner, register a vehicle in your name unless you have the proper visa, social security number and a US drivers license.

Just went through this ordeal (October 2010) and ended up registering a friends CAN-AM in my name (bill of sale, title, registration and insurance). Another courtesy of 911...

How about in Alaska? Any contacts of shops there that sell to foreigners and sort out all the paperwork/address situation too?
I got one contact from another forum member but after reading his blog, it seems the bike had an expensive problem to fix. Just hoping to get a small collection of options for buying there. Any ideas/contact emails/websites, please?
