Shipping parts from the Netherlands to Canada advice.

Hello,

I'm planning on buying a new shock for my bike in the Netherlands.
I'm a Belgian adventure rider who's riding in Canada.
I'd like to know or there's people who got experience with sending a package (with shock) with the post into Canada.
How do the customs work here and how does the duty on parcel payment work?
I got a German friend who flies over end of may to ride together.
I'm wondering or it's a better option to have him bringing it over.
Than wonder if he got stopped with it what the issue would be at customs?
Anyway, would be nice to get some advice on what's the cheapest and fastest way.

Thanks!

Cheers Bossit!

The cheapest way is for your friend to bring it out with him and give it to you.

The quickest way is to send it DHL/TNT/UPS etc and pay the transport costs plus probably some duties and taxes upon importation. You should be able to purchase the shock duty free and offset some of these costs though.

It's your call

Most shocks these days have compressed gas inside them ... if you fly with them you can run into problems with the shock being declared 'dangerous'. Check with the airline about flying with it (and get it in writing).

Canada where I come from is a rapidly developing country... you may be able to buy it there, no?
