Shipping my US bike home without me?
 

Guys,

I have been transfered by my company to Thailand from the UK! However I cannot take my US spec (I bought it in the USA) with me:(. I dearly want to keep my beloved old ZRX 1100 and want to ship it to my parents house in Maryland. Is this possible? I don't live there "right" now and I will not be able to pick the bike up.

Any ideas?

I can't see why that would be a problem, you just need to put one of your parent's names down as the consignee, and you being the shipper.

The only other problem you might have is if the bike is now registered in the UK? Presumably if it is going to stay in the US indefinitely the it will need to be 'imported' and the irony being you might have to go though all the SVA tests etc? And even pay duty!

Mind you, if you have the original sales invoice showing it was a US bike bought in the States, there may be a fast-track way of exchanging the UK documents for a US Title?

I think what I would do is to put my old Texas plate back on the bike. Its obviously an American spec machine. I have the title etc.

btw. did you not need to forfeit your Title to the UK DVLC when you registered it there? I'm asking because I have my Nevada Titled XR in the UK at the moment, and don't want to forfeit the US documents incase I do decide to bring it back at some point...

Having a US title should be a positive.

You may wish to have the bill of sale available in case you plan to register the bike in Maryland from Texas. There maybe little or no tax due at registration. Also to change state to state registration you may have to be present to sign the title, but that varies from state to state.

I am not sure about a third party picking up the bike. But it being US titled should be easier since it is not being imported, it is just being returned. Also get insurance on the bike.

Isn't the UK plate issued for life ? Meaning once you return back to the UK one can just put the plate back on. :confused1:
