Selling Australian Bike in USA

I flew my bike (2005 R1150 GS Adventure) in to LA from Australia, entered Mexico at Tijuana and rode around the south. Now I'm planning on coming back to LA (and on to Alaska) then I want to sell the bike in either Canada or the US.
It would be easier to sell to another foreigner as I can re-write the ownership papers that I created many fronteras ago. (the original Australian paper was hard to pass off as genuine!)
Question 1: If I sell it locally what papers and import duties and regulatory stuff is needed in Canada and the US in order for the new owner to register the bike locally?
Question 2: Any information/advice/links to advertise my bike for sale?

I've searched the HUBB, followed links to the US government websites (!) and I am totally confused and sweating it out in a Mexican cyber cafe......any assistance greatly appreciated.

Always the way isn't it. Just after I ship my bike from Brisbane to Vancouver a suitable bike comes up for sale. I have a link to the Canadian tax/importation site at work which I will dig out tomorrow (Monday) and post for you.
Hope you had a good trip.

A lot of bikes sold in other countries say, "Meets California smog" or something along that line. Even if they were never sold here. Which would mean, someone in the US, can buy the bike.

I'm not sure with new bikes though. Registering an old (25+) bike/car in California just means saying, "It's been sitting in my garage for 7 years and is off your computer".

So I'm of no good for giving a decent answer on that, but craigslist.org is a good place to sell. Depends on the city you list it in, but in LA and San Francisco Craigslist is great.

Oh, duh, let me edit this in: Try asking on Adventure Rider. http://www.advrider.com/forums/index.php

People there should be able to give good advice.

Tax link

Sorry it has taken me a while to get back to you. I have put the link for the import taxes somewhere safe, real safe and now I can't find it.
This is the best I can do at the moment it is the home page for Canada Revenue Agency http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/menu-e.html I recommend that you email them with the question.
