a room (for rental) in NY City, jan/feb? Anyone here knows?
 

I am planning to go alone (flying) from sao paulo/br to new york(us) and stay there from next jan/28 to 18/feb.
Does anyone know a place, somewhere to stay (room or house) there?

No suggestions for a free place but airbnb.com for cheap sublets. Usually in somebodies apartment while they are on holidays. Cheaper than a hostel. Just beware most sublets are illegal in New York. I used airbnb a few months ago and had no issues.

How much will you pay per night?

I saw at airbnb the room for US$ 30 pp night. This means something around US$ 600. It's clean and to be Announced at Brooklyn. It Seems to be reasonable. I will stay alone.
For an instance: where have you been there?

That sounds like a good deal.

I was staying upper west side at 101 but it was a whole apartment for $150 per night.
The main thing you have to be aware of is that most sublets are illegal and its possible that despite paying in full you could be tossed out on the street if the building has a strong co-op board or whatever you call the building management. You usually are told to say you are visiting a friend and not renting.
I dont think its too much to worry about but I know some buildings are very strict on comings and goings by strangers. As I said my wife and I had no issues and a nice little apartment at a fraction of the cost of a decent hotel.

Avoid Craigslist as its full of scams.
