prudhoe Bay
 

The GlobeBusters Trans Am team leave Anchorage on 1 August 2005 heading north for Prudhoe Bay. After that it is south all the way for 5 months to Ushuaia.

Look out for 12 GS Adventures, an F650Dakar and a huge red Transit Van as support vehicle.

You may catch up with me.In Las Vegas at moment.Left Calgary 13th July.Hope to be at the same destination as yourselves for xmas.Riding Kalahari yellow GS 1100.Girlfriend on back who has hangover at present, that is why we are staying the extra night here.Too hot to be travelling with hangover.Don't want her fainting and falling off.

We are heading up to Alaska through Canada around the same time, we leave Vancouver around the 12th August, not sure how far north we will get before heading same route south!

can someone give me some info on the road to prudoe bay. ive heard it shreds tires, and also that it is fine. can you give me some recent info. how long is it? how long did it take? are there accomodations in the bay so i can leave all my camping gear back in anchorage?

am riding it solo.

I did the road to Prudhoe last month. The road is rough, but I dont see how it would SHRED tires. I put on a new set of tires in anchorage, and still have miles left on them after prudhoe and riding all the way home to florida.

The problem with the road is if its raining, or you get behind a water truck in a construction zone, it turns into muck. I lucked out, and had a light rain going up, and no rain the next 2 days coming back to fairbanks. A friend going up the day before I did had so much rain, the cylinder heads on his bmw were caked with a couple inches of mud, and had to be pressure washed off.

Fairbanks to prudhoe bay is 485 miles, with the last 240 being no gas available. I did the trip up in one shot, and it took 15 hours. Broke it up into 2 days coming back.

Take your time, dont over ride the rough spots, and watch for deep soft spots, and everything goes fine. I even saw a guy doing the ride on a Vespa or something similar, gas cans strapped to the seat, and a big ass grin on his face.

I reckon the Vespa's just fine. When the muck gets too deep it just slides along on it's floorboards.
