one trip permits in California
 

V C Section 4003 Vehicles Operated on One Trip Permit

this seems to allow you to buy a bike and use the permit to travel rather than register it in Cali, as long as you are moving out of the state.

We are planning on buying in California, and selling in Florida, so I wonder if this would work just using this permit (or is one required for each state you travel through I wonder)?

Any thoughts?

You may want to call DMV and double check this before making any plans. We used to get "Trip permits" for our semi trailers at work. We use them as towable sheds. They would get towed to the job at the beginning and towed back to the yard at the end of the job.

They are no longer issuing these permits. Its either register or nothing.

I dont know about cars/motorcycles though. Ive only gotten trip permits for commercial vehicles.
