Montreal to Vancouver

G'day everyone

Quick question: how long would it take to ride from Montreal to Vancouver?

Yes I realise Canada is a big place.

Yes, it depends on which way you go, how often you stop, etc

Just looking for a rough estimate: allow 2 weeks?

I know Australia has been crossed on a postie in 12 days....

It's about 5,000 km which to put it in Aussie terms is Perth to Sydney plus another 1,000 km.

One rough rule of thumb of 100 km an hour gives you 50 hours of riding time. Ten days of five hours a day in the saddle gets you there. If you throw in 2 rest/sightseeing days per five days of riding you get two weeks in total. As you no doubt know, the more interesting roads are slower going and add more kms but are worth the effort. A mixture of going fast on the freeways for the boring bits (i.e. the prairies) and slower for the more scenic parts (lakes, mountains, etc.) will still get you there in a couple of weeks. More time is of course better.

Enjoy the ride.

I have traversed CND slow and fast. Definately the more time you have available the richer the experience.

Google map the miles from A to B, wear some undies that you can poop and pee in drink energy drinks and only stop to sleep and gas up but where is the fun in that.

Prairies

I’ve travelled a good part of the world by bus, bike, boat, foot etc.etc. and I can honestly say that the prairies – particularly in the fall when the crops are being brought in – can be the most gorgeous scenery you’ll ever come across. Time it with a setting sun and it’s simply stunning.

thanks for the replies,
I'll have three to four weeks in October and was curious how far it was, i thought it was similiar to Aust.
First and foremost though I'll need to obtain a bike somehow, registering a bike in Canada looks like it will be difficult (see related post)

thanks again

You can do it four days, not much on your way except a lot of miles. October? Might get luck with the weather, might get unlucky. Been snowed on in every month of the year in this land, and we're coming up on winter. Northern Ontario has been hitting below freezing this week already, throw in some precip, and that's snow. Slow you down some.

I am going the same way, but maybe with a detour to California and Colorado.

When do you start? I will depart on 13th or 14th of april in Halifax.
