Los Angeles - where to buy 2nd hand bikes?

Hello

I've checked websites cycletrader.com and wheelbynet.com plus ebay and found surprisingly little for sale in way of travel bikes..

Anyone know of ways I can enquire and maybe secure a sale by phone internet from Australia in the Los Angeles area (or not too far away)? There are quite a few browsing options in OZ, I'm thinking I've overlooked a site or something.

Thanks.

Another Website to try!

You might want to try. craigslist classifieds: jobs, housing, personals, for sale, services, community, events, forums

The website is a little cumbersome to search on (city by city).

I have had a lot of luck finding good bikes at good prices. Good Luck

Don't forget about the easiest way of checking craigslist. Jaxed.com

for sale : : combined classified and auction listings

That site is amazing.

or you could post an ad on advrider.com

advrider has TONS of travel bikes and you can find a sell that has a lot of posts for added security. You can see what posts the profile has written and if he has several hundred then he is probably a regular and would not cheat you.

another option is to ask someone to buy a bike for you. I did that and a guy from advrider bought it for me a did all the registration so that I could arrive and drive off. You should probably pay the guy a bit for his time though, but I found this a very good way to do it.

I have two Aussies from Darwin (Elisabeth and Sam) arriving in L.A. this week - to buy a bike and tour for 3 months. I directed them to cycletrader and craigslist, and we found plenty of stuff available. 12 percent of all bikes in America are registered in California. Can let you know how it goes next week.

Elisabeth and Sam bought from craigslist a 1994 ST1100 in West Hollywood. Insurance and DMV only took a day, and we spent a day changing fluids and such. Led them out through Angeles Forest and pointed them towards Death Valley and Vegas, before veering off to a charity ride for the weekend myself.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
