Looking for a freight/forwarder to fly 2 bikes from Vancouver to Seoul
1st, yes I know this should probably be under the "Trip Transport" Forum, but I reckon there is more traffic of readers here (I may be naughty and post it there as well.)

2nd, yes I am sure the answer(s) are in here somewhere, but my HUBB and Google search mojo have deserted me.

I'd prefer to get to Vancouver and do the rounds to get thinks sorted, but Mike and I are on a tight time scale (91 days from Halifax, NS -> Vancouver -> Seoul -> Vlad -> Russia ... back to England). .... must get the blog started.

Sooo, looking for a reliable contact/shipper to get sorted flying to South Korea.

It looks like Motomethod | Vancouver's Community Motorcycle Repair Shop can do the crates, at $300-$350 per bike.

What we need now is a contact for sorting out the flying of the bikes. And validating the (metal) crates are ok to use.

Surely someone has done the route recently ? Has contacts ? Want to share ?

We land in Halifax,NS on 1st May.

Please ? (Do I sound desperate enough yet ?)

I am also looking to fly my bike to Vlad.Probably go through Seoul if it is easier.I want to ship from Vancouver around the end of May.I just sent requests for prices to a few forwarders-nothing back yet.I have looked all over the HU and found nothing helpful.There seems to be half dozen others looking for the same info and about the same time.

I want to ride from Cincinnati to Vancouver for shipping.I don't want to put it on a ship and wait 3-5 weeks hoping it may show up.

Seems there would be a good dedicated area on this forum for bike shipping.

Aha, spotted you in the other thread. My best contact so far has been Chase Freight, chasefrt@on.aibn.com, but they are Toronto based and it means we need a 3rd party to do the crating. Also the bikes need purging of petrol and other guff !

We are also looking to ship out of Vancouver at the end of May. If we fly it will be via Seoul and then get teh bikes trucked to the harbour for the boat to Vlad.

However I have my eye on this RoRo from Tacoma, Seattle.

Two boats are discharging on the 22nd&23rd May, so this is looking good for us. Apart from the 14 days it will be wayyyy cheaper. I just need my mate (Mike) to dig out the shipper details.

We will be riding from Halifax,NS, hopefully on the 2nd May. Looks like we may well be meeting up with you :-)

Does the boat take your bike to Vladivostok?
What is their pricing for that?

I know nothing about sea shipping.I read that people sometimes are waiting for their bikes much longer than promised. And they may have unexpected port charges. What is your experience with it?

If it does only take 14 days to arrive,what do you do in that time? The expenses of eating and sleeping for the 14 or more days should be added to the price of that shipment to compare savings.

If the bike is shipped to Vlad,it does save trucking the bike from Seoul to the port and the ferry to Vlad.And I read the ferry does fill up.Often June and July are sold out with vacationers.

Yes, I can't find the email I had forwarded to me, but IIRC it was about 1300USD per bike. A *lot* cheaper.

That may happen. When I have used sea shipping the once, the bike got home in about the expected time with the only excess charge being the cost of paying someone to pick it up and transport it the 250miles home.

We have to eat, drink, sleep those 14 days regardless, so it does not factor into the equation.

We have to get ourselves to Vlad regardless, so it does not factor into the equation.

We will probably fly to South Korea and spend time there before getting the boat to Vlad.
