Learners Permit, International DL

It is my understanding that riders can't get an IDL with learners licenses so I'm asking to see if there is a way around this. It's not a big deal for me since I'm able to take the M course (M1 --> M2 --> M) in Ontario but maybe others here aren't since this takes TWO years. Could a Canadian pick up an American IDL? Yep, having 2 years of experience could save your life but even when riding 2-up it's good for both people to have licenses.

Cheers, Steve

To the best of my knowledge learners' licences are not valid outside the country of issue. That's why you can't get the IDL.

How do I go about obtaining an IDL if I live in the states, and have a state motorcycle endorsement? Is there just a writen test or is there a driving portion also?

lw843,

You just go to your local office of the AAA or equivalent and ask for it. They'll charge you $20-40 and give it to you, that's all there is to it. You have to show a valid licence of course. http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/smile.gif Make sure that their is a motorcycle endorsement on it.

It's just an internationalised version of your normal dl, in several languages, confirming that you do have a valid licence.
