Latest time of year to Prudhoe Bay?
 

What would be the latest time of year to resaonably confortably ride up to Prudhoe Bay, to start a full trans-americas trip? I don't mind cold, but don't want poor visibility and/or snow on the "highway" - clear skies in order to appreciate the scenery and do some photography.

I believe June would be best, but that's not gonna happen, unfortunately. Also, as I'm planning on taking maybe 3 months to get to Tierra del Fuego, the later I leave then the better the weather should be at the other end, right?

I've been as far north in Norway (Nordkapp) in August and the weather was perfect, but it may be more like September when I get to go.

I don't want to wait another year! BTW I'm riding a 1200 GSA.

Probably 1st 1/2 of Sep at the latest. Weather is fickle, as you know, and could be bad in August.

www.weather.com has a nice feature for checking monthly temp, rainfall, etc averages for many, many places.

Travel up north
 

One year I did a alaska trip in the first two weeks of sept and it snowed further south in canada. So take heed to the rest of the trip as well. It can snow here in Montana in september as well.

OK thanks guys, looks like mid Sep is going to be the latest. If it snows, is it likely to be miserable/grey/poor visibility, or more picturesque (high pressure) blue skies etc./cold etc.? Or probably either, I guess...

I don't mind cold, but I don't want to be struggling to stay on the bike and not be able to see more than a few yards in front of me. I rode through the Pyrenees once, and after 2/3 of the way decided it was a bit pointless and to drop down to lower ground because I couldn't see a thing!

How many months per year on average is somewhere like Prudhoe totally isolated by road?

I'm pretty used to fickle weather, living in the UK!
