Hot Springs Near Fairbanks, Alaska?

Heading up to Prudoe Bay next week and I was wondering if anyone has been to the three hotsprings that are shown on the map near Fairbanks. I might take a side trip while I'm up there. Thanks

Hi there Reinhold - I don't know the answer to your question but I'll be a couple weeks behind you (leaving next week from Boston) in getting to Fairbanks / Prudhoe Bay.

So I'd be interested if you found the hot springs a worthy diversion or not - God know's I'll need a bath by then :-)

cheers,
Greg

Chena Hot Springs

I was at Chena hot springs a couple years ago.
The road is paved all the way there and camping at the hot spring (resort) itself was something like $20. A bit steep, but it included use of the hot springs (I think).

I think the other hot springs in the area required a bit more of an effort to reach. Send a message to the Anchorage or Juneau Horizons community. They may know more.

Greg and Reinhold. I am also headed to Prudhoe Bay/Deadhorse from Southern California. I am leaving on the 29th of May. Looking at around 12th to 15th of June to be up there. Around Fairbanks and Palmer before that and after. Taking ferry from Haines on the 19th of June. Look for a California KLR 650 with Happy trails panniers and top box. Give me a shout.

you might try www.advrider.com, very lively and had a strong base of American posters, plenty of people living in Alaska who'll know

about a month ago i was at one of the hotsprings just outside fairbanks.... cant remember the name, but we was heading south easterly out of fairbanks towards tok......... it was a massive dissapointment really..... just these bland and minimal buildings catering for toursists, with no character at all.... moody waitress aswell......... i spose if ya wanna bath in the springs it would be ok, but i was straight in then out within the hour........ a bit negative i spose , but i was only disapointed because the rest of alaska that we saw was fantastic ...

Hot Springs

Chena Hotsprings are the easiest to get to, and the closest to Fairbanks. The other two popular hotsprings are Manley Hotsprings and Circle Hotsprings. All are worthwhile, Chena Hotsprings is the most commercial feeling of all of them.
