Foreign national getting California motorcycle license?
 

After riding in Asia and South America with only a car license, I thought if I spend next summer in the US (which is a possibility) it may be good to get my bike license if possible (I won't be leaving South America before then, hence can't get from home).

I have a full Australian car license, have held for over 15 years, so wondering if anyone knows if this would be possible for me?

the most significant for you is
Driver License and Identification (ID) Card Information

Birth date verification and legal presence requirements
Two of them are;

Valid foreign passport with a valid Record of Arrival/Departure (form I–94)

"Processed for I–551" stamped in a valid foreign passport

I-94 "non immigrant arrival/departure"
I-551 "temporary evidence of lawful admission for permanent residence"

Assuming you will be there for more than 90 days you should get the I-94 document on arrival ...
