That should be enough :-)

Still working on whether or not to book a floght back from Buenos Aires for next April/May before we leave as it will help with Canada, mexico and Panama (apparently), it needs to be flexible.

We went near you back in 2007, but made the mistake of crossing at Huron and entering Flint. We left Flint pretty rapidly.

Last time we did a big trip in 2007, the US customs officials just looked at our B2 Visas and waved us through.

Colors will be best in the far north of Vermont, New Hampshire and New York states in September. October will be better for Boston area, Massachusetts, Connecticut and other areas further south.

Water is usually still warm(ish) on the ocean beaches during September (unless there's been a major storm stirring things up). Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard are expensive, but have hostels and are far more friendly in September than during summer.

If you wanna see some fantastic fall colours, there is a scenic drive In the Muskokas area. Algonquin Park area. Its like a countryside covered in a quilt of vibrant colours. Keep in mind, regardless where you go, the colours depend on the amount of water they got in the summer and the rate at which the temperature dropped to force them to change. Thats why some years they are better then others. Yeah wierd info to know, but it was explained to me by a naturalist 1 day while chatting about the colours

Boston will be a great time, and the Irish area is great. Maybe since you are down there, check out Salem Mass. Its where the witch trials were held way back when. and in October its a full month of Halloween and stuff daily and parades. You should check it out!!!

since you are planning on going into Mexico do the vehicle importation in advance. you should be able to get all of the paper work completed before you leave home. this may help at the boarders showing you have plans to exit and a time line.

Just started planning our next trip and will be shipping into east USA then overland north into Canada, across Canada and down the west coast to Mexico on route to Cape Horn.
Going on what i've read so far in this thread we need to have names and addresses for people in the USA, also someone in Mexico and Canada.
We will be spending approx 18 months to complete the trip can anybody see a problem with this period of time?

If the 18 months in in Canada and US you may have a problem with temp import which I think is only good for 12 months. If my information is correct going into Canada and back will not restart the 12 months. You will need to enter Mexico within the 12 months. Could return the next day though for another 12 months. I am not totally clear on all this but suggest that you check it out if you wanted to spend more than 12 months here.

18 months will be total trip, so i'm guessing:
Canada x 2
North America x 6
South America x 10
We have only just returned from the last one so planning is in the early stages (2 weeks) but aiming to get to the east coast for May/June 2012, long way off but gives us time to recover/save/plan.
