Buy/Register in New Mexico for foreigners

In New Mexico, a foreign rider can buy and register a moto, for 1 or 2 years total time.
Here's how - until they change it -

1. you need an insurance card with your New Mexico address on it, or faxed certificate of insurance with same. You can get that thru Fernet Insurance - as a foreign rider.

2. You need a rental receipt from a friend, with the rental amount and address written on it.

Go to MVD, get registered - they will give you your Title and Registration card at the same time, no need to wait for mail, and like I say you can choose a 2 year plate,, and you are done.

For a short time, I am offering my address as a rental for our foreign friends...and will help at DMV if needed BUT ya' gotta come to Deming in the south to do that - as it is the easiest Motor Vehicle Department and I know them there -
buy new or used bike anywhere in country, ride here with your insurance paper as long as the old owners plate/registration is valid, and register here.

technicality

It was just pointed out to me that I had written about obtaining a rent receipt rather informally...this has been changed. I just checked again with MVD here and a person registering needs a rent receipt as stated in 1st post, an insurance card, and 2 forms of ID...a drivers license, and passport will do.

and beware there are some riders that take grave offense at anyone putting things in italics -

such as "rent receipt", I've been warned dearly at adv about this, it is construed as attempting

to defraud someone....they are watching us evidently

Update: I'll be in Santa Fe the next 2 months if any riders coming through want to register.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
