Q regarding licence

Hi!

I hope to go to the states, buy a bike and ride it down through South America.

I have my Danish motorbike drivers licence, but I have a friend who may also be going - and he only has a car licence. We are going to asia first and he doesn't have time to get the motorbike licence in Denmark prior to leaving.

So does anyone have an idea what to do?

Can he obtain a motorbike licence it in the states?

Thanks

Regards, Peter

I don't have real facts, but would suggest that an International license would be the way to go, whether by moto or car.

Yes, but he does not not even have a Danish motorbike driving licence, only car. He can make en international licence for car but not for a bike or not in Denmark at least.

I'd strongly recommend he makes time - he MIGHT be able to get away with a non-motorcycle licence in Central and South America, they are unlikely to notice or care, but he won't get away with it in the US for sure.

It's POSSIBLE he can get one in the US but I wouldn't bet on it - he'd need to have a residence at the least to start.

Perhaps some Americans can answer that better?

good luck,

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
