Canada to Greenland by water?

Hi,
I want to plan a trip from New Jersey, USA to Greenland this summer. I'd like to ride as far north into Canada as I can and find the nearest land to land point and hopscotch over to Greenland, perhaps from Baffin island. Then I'd like to ride as far north into G.L. as I can from there, depending on gasoline availability. My question is; are there any ferries that go from either Newfoundland or Baffin Island to G.L.? If not, would there be someway I could pay off a fishing boat or freighter that would be going that way to take me and my bike. I'd even offer to pay and work on the boat for the ride over. I'd like to make the trip as adventurous as possible, and just sort of make my way up ther "by hook or by crook". I was wondering if any body has tried this method to get across the water from point A to B anywhere in the area, or anywhere else for that matter.
Thanks for any and all replies
Wally

You will have better luck going from Canada to Iceland then Greenland and Skipping Baffin Island. There are no passenger ships to Greenland besides cruise ships. Baffin's longest road is 16 miles from Artic Bay to Nanisivik on the Borden Peninsula in the far north. Although a great place to visit for hikers and big wall climbers, not exactly an adventure motorcycle tourers place to go.
Your best bet may be to ship the bike from Canada to Iceland or Greenland and fly to Baffin then onto which ever place you shipped the bike to if you want to see Baffin. There have been climbers in the past that were able to buy a spot on a freighter and hop off on Baffin, but with a bike that may be more difficult. You would then probably end up having to ship the bike to Iceland anyway. However its been a number of years since anyone I know made that trip on a boat.

Thanks for the reply.
No special reason to visit Baffin, except that I'd thought It would possibly be a good springboard to Greenland. After hearing your description of the island though, I'll probably heed your advice and not even bother.
Greenland seemed like an easier place to get to via Baffin. Iceland would be great too. I envisioned riding up into Newfounland somewhere
and sort of finding a way over to either GL or IL, even by air if I coud find a reasonable shipper in a pinch. I guess something to make the trip a little more challenging, but it does seem a little too far to be able to hop a freighter like a hobo with a bike. Sounds like I should do some homework first.
