can we camp in you back yard?
 

Laura and I are travelling up from Mexico and through the west region of USA to Canada before shipping to Russia.
We will be getting the bikes from Customs Mexico Nov7 and begining the trip up.
Does anyone want to give us a patch of yard for us to put up our tent and wash our gear as we travel through Mexcio, Arizona, California,Canada.

If you want to see some of the most beautifull parts of the western US come thru montana. That is if you are traveling during the warmer months. Right now it is still nice here but could snow in for the winter(snow on the roads) any time.We have a house with indoor plumbing and a place to work on the bikes. And I am a mechanic at the local yamaha shop.

I'm in the USA at the moment - albiet in my Land Rover - regardless, we've camped free almost every night through 28 states so far. I'd hihgly reccomend Don Wrights 'Guide to Free campgrounds' - you'd find it through google or I think I got mine from Amazon. A bit out of date but armed with that and the free maps available at every welcome centre, national park, forest service etc you'll be well sorted.

have a great trip - look out for a green Land Rover witht he steering wheel on the wrond side!

I can't host you in the states, then I'm from Germany and now I'm on tour. On my tour in the USA I have no problems fo find a place for my tent. I drive to farmers and tell they my story and that I'm looking for a place for me, my bike and my tent. If you're frindly and smile, then you have no problems to find a place. At a bad day, I have ask 3 people and then I have the place to stay.

I can´t see "Utah public land" without relaying the following little story from Delta, Utah.

From my diaires last year ...¨"I couldn't manage to find the hot springs, so with the area being BLM (Bureau of Land Management) land I simply pulled off the gravel road and got ready to spend my last night in the high Utah desert with the night sky under millions of stars before a storm moved in the following day. After finding some solid rocks to place the motorbikes sidestand on, I enjoyed a pasta dinner and half of a 3.2% Miller Genuine Draft, and went to sleep under the stars. Two hours later, and about 11:30pm, I awake to the sound of someone slapping my gas tank and the unmistakable smell of gas. I flip on my Petzl to see gas pouring out of the tank onto my legs. My first thoughts were that the tanks had somehow heated up and exploded, and as I looked to my left, I was relieved to see a truck 1/4 mile away. Perfect, I thought, I could use the help in sorting out what was exactly going on. I scrambled to move sleeping back and thermorest out of the way of the emptying fuel. I noticed soon that the truck wasn't moving and as I looked closer at the tank I came to the annoying realization that these wankers in the truck had fired at me and hit the tank. The truck moved along the gravel road and was soon out of sight, leaving me to hurridly pack all my gear into a bag and head 15 miles into town to find a cheap hotel room to take a shower, rinse the bag, and think about what had just happened. The next day was Sunday and the town was empty as I went looking for a launrdromat and greasy spoonfor breakfast. I was debating on if I should go to the police or not, when a sheriff truck rolled down Main street so I flag him down and tell him the whole sorted story. Deputy Sheriff Stephen Allred took some notes but let me know that the chances of finding these people would be somewhere between "slim and none". He went on to say that there are people that go out at night into the BLM land to shoot coyotes and rabbits. "And tourists," I added. We fished the slug out of the tank and although deformed from the impact into the side of the tank, we could tell it was a .22 caliber. "

I am now in Bolivia, a safe country for sleeping outside.

I have a knee that still works after a bad motorcycle crash. Thanks to the american medical system. I would a lot rather take precautions to camp out of sight of punks with guns and also not make uninformed comments about peoples voting preferences. Peace!

Sorry if I offended you, I just wanted Rene to know that not all Americans carry guns, drive trucks and shoot at strangers. I know I shouldn't say this but I find it ironic that (judging by your post) three issues that are very important to you are health care, gun control (at least in the sense that you seem to say irresponsible people are more dangerous when they have guns)and "peace" . Does that mean you voted as I did?
