camping at Denali NP + motorcycle

Hi all -
I'm planning on camping a few days at Denali NP in August. I realize I'd have to park the bike at the entrance parking lot. Any advice/experience w/ moto-camping at Denali, or near? Should I just store my bike somewhere (Anchorage) and take a shuttle to the park, or risk bike security at the Denali parking lot? (I'll have a cover and locks.)

Thanks for any help,
Cookie

Denali is a major tourist area, but is safe compared to most in the US. August will be cooler at night, and the tourist season will be more than 2/3 over. I dont think you will have any problems if your bike is covered and locked. If you are worried, just talk to one of the rangers there and see if you can put it next to one of the ranger cabins. There is no need to put it in Anchorage or Fairbanks. There are also a few smaller towns within 20 min of the park that might offer another place to keep it. There are always recreational vehicles (campers) lined up near the park, so you could contact someone and park with them over night. Happy travels.

Sorry for the late reply,

in 1997 I parked my bike on the main parking lot near the park entrance for several days. No problems. It was a problem to find a place to store my excess luggage. I did not want to carry my motorcycle gear, helmet... through the park. The lockers at the infocenter were all taken. After a long search I found a campground attendant 20miles north of the park entrance who would store the stuff.
Denali is great, Wonder lake campground is the best.

Werner
