CA "Central Valley" - meeting locals and renting a bike or even better ride together!

Hello everyone!

After almost three years of travelling I started working again in my home country, in Germany. My new job will bring me to the US a few times, mainly the "Central Valley" in CA. The first time in March and April and I am looking to meet some locals for having nice talks, time, maybe a and if possible a ride together beside the work! As I really want to make some free time beside the work and at the weekends I would love to ride a bike across CA and maybe along the coast of SF.

If anybody wants to meet me, knows a place to get/rent a bike for a few days or even better ride together, I will be very very happy about any suggestion and offer...

Looking forward to meet some fellow travellers in a few months!

Alex

Welcome!
Where are you based in California? The Central Valley is a HUGE area!
If you plan in be in California for several trips for more than a year ... then perhaps buying a bike would be better than renting? Renting is expensive ... and it's mostly Harley's for rent at around $125 USD per day. Better to buy a nice used bike and re-sell when your time in California ends.

In October HU has a travelers meeting ... it's in Mariposa, CA, in the Sierra foothills, just a couple hours ride from the Central Valley area. Details on the Rally here:

"Ag" guy? be sure to explore the most interesting, productive and beautiful agricultural area in the whole USA: The Salinas Valley (and surrounding areas) produces most (and the BEST) fruit and vegetables for California and much of the USA.

Fantastic riding too. Don't just ride the coast. Take small inland roads. Thousands of miles to explore, wide variety of landscapes including the Sierra Madre mountain areas. (Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks)

Prost!

Thanks a lot Molly,

that might be an option to look for? Isn't it difficult to buy and register as a foreigner? Do you know about this procedure? So far it looks, I will be there for 4-5 months totally.
And it's around Hanford, south of Fresno. Again in the summertime July and further...

According to the HU-meeting, I already registered and am very happy to attend!

Where are you living?

Ciao Alex

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
