Buying motorcycle clothing in the USA

Hi People, I plan to be crossing into the US from Mexico at Nogales in a couple of weeks and then transit up to Vancouver and beyond. My gear is now pretty tatty and needs replacing so, two questions please.

1. Are there any of the western(ish) states that I will be passing through that are significantly cheaper taxwise when buying clothing?

2. Any shops/dealers that people could recommend?

Many thanks and ride safe.

Oregon has no sales tax and in Portland there are several large M/C shops and they carry clothing of all brands between them.

There's a large dealer in Portland and a large dealer in Seattle that can help. Seattle's is "RMC" or "Renton Motorcycles". Still, newenough.com will beat them in selection. We are always disappointed in the selection- even LA had poor selection when we were headed south about a month ago.

Newenough is in Texas..

If you don't know what you want, this is the way to go.

buying mc clothing in US

I second Mollydog's mention of Chaparral . The place IS huge. A tourist destination in it´s own right. I have stopped there several times to get a new tire installed while on a trip. And even though you will have to pay the state sales tax there is something to be said for being able to try on the clothing in the flesh and see how you like the fit or style instead of getting all the annoying bother and waste of time to send it back. This opinion from somebody who has never in his 60 years bought a single cent´s worth on-line.

A&S motos in California is worth a shot...check it out if you're heading through...
A&S BMW Motorcycles: BMW Motorcycle Accessories, Parts and Resources, Microfiche,Dealer,New and Used Motorcycles,Vintage Info,Apparel and Clothing,BMW Catalog,Service
They have web specials that you can buy and or shipped to another state thereby avoiding the sales tax...shipping cost is minimal...

newenough.com is a great place to buy gear, great people at a great price otherwise Oregon has no sales tax. Don't know places in Portland but there's a few here in Eugene that don't have large selcetion but some real good gear. BMW Eugene has BMW gear and the Olympia stuff, the new phantom 1pc looks real nice or the Triuph dealer has Rev'it gear.

Hi People, many thanks for the info; however, as they say, after a Mexican stealth car driver blindsided me in Xalapa Mexico my sartorial plans plus those involving the USA and Canada have been put on standby for a while. Still, as the hospital will not allow me to put any weight on my right leg for another 10 days or so, this, coupled with the ongoing effects of ligament damage post a dislocated right shoulder, means that every day I get rinsed then soaped then rinsed again in a hot/cold shower by a pretty infermera. Clouds do have silver linings. Ride safe and thanks again.

Mike,
Sorry to hear about your bad luck! :funmeterno:

Ouch!

Sorry about the pain. I have had first hand experience, compound fracture of the thigh bone among others. If you have a medical or medication question send it my way. My wife is a registered nurse with connections. If you make it up to montana we have a place for you to stay.
