Burning Man Rally

Hello would be Burning Man participants,

I'm Devin from New Orleans, La. I was wondering if anyone was heading to burning man and cared to make it a rally of sorts. I'm starting my ride out of Nola around August 23. That leaves three days to get to Nevada. It's roughly 2,300 miles (3,700km). If anyone is up for the challenge, or wants to just link up for a portion of the journey let me know. If someone already knows of a rally please reach out.

Cheers
Devin

Hey Dev,

You posted this question on the other BM thread but I thought I would answer it here.

You won't be able to carry enough water and food for a week, two up on a GSA. One of the members of this site (Kev), was on his way south to Ushuaia a couple of years ago and he rode his 1200GS down to BRC and joined us since we were heading there for BM. You are pretty limited for space as you know, and the theory is to be self sufficient but we had a vehicle so we happily hauled in his water and food (and whisky, and ) for him. Needless to say, we all had a great time.

There is an incredible gifting culture around BM which means you won't go hungry or thirsty but also means it is nice to give something back which means that a bike won't allow you to bring enough of that either.

My suggestion to you would be to go to Costco in Reno. You will see a ton of RVs pull in because that is where everyone stocks up. Connect with some of the BM goers and you can be assured that if they have room, someone would gladly haul in your water and provisions. Just get the coordinates of their camp, and you can pick up your gear upon arrival. If you really connect with someone, you may even get invited to stay at their camp if they have room.

Anyways, ride safe and have a great time, you'll meet a whole host of interesting people.

Hey Devin,

Not sure if you have signed up to the BM Jack Rabbit speaks newsletter, but they mention you can get supplies in Gerlach, the closest village to BRC. If you don't have the newsletter, PM me your email address and I can forward a copy

GETTING YOUR SUPPLIES AND SHOWERS IN GERLACH

You can support your Gerlach Burners by getting your supplies at the big WHITE STAR TENT at 305 Main Street in Gerlach beginning Wednesday, August 21 and continuing throughout the event!

The BarSyl Bazaar in Gerlach has a solid collection of supplies for Burning Man, including bikes, , ice, goggles, playa wear and food. 2 blocks north of Bruno's in Gerlach.

Also, Sylvia and JB's Mutant Vehicle Support is near the Burning Man Ranch, by the Black Rock Desert. Please contact JB for contacts, towing or troubleshooting if you have any trouble with your vehicle on the way to or from Burning Man.

I am going up to Burningman and usually camp with some motorcycle friends in a placed camp. We drive up in cars because of the difficulties carrying everything you need. Send me a PM. I don't mind carrying some of your stuff in the back of my pickup. I have been 14 times so I usually leave early so I can promise to get stuff back for you.

I am going to be at the Airheads BMW camp. 5:15 and C st. Come by or join us. Dave

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
