Bad Ass Road Trip! Need Help!

My ol' lady and I (she actually wants to do this!Is she a bad ass or what?) are planning a cross country road trip. We plan to get going towards the end of July. We will depart NorCal and take the I-80 for a few hundred miles, passing through Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, and South Dakota (We would prefer to avoid Nebraska, damn helmet law!). Getting back home (we don’t have a clear itinerary yet), we will go through Iowa, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansa, Louisianna, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. If any of you know of a decent hangout that we should not miss along the way, please let us know the name, location and any other information that is useful. We would like to stay close to I80, don’t want to stray too far from our route (due to many of my brain cells being KIA by massive amounts of alcohol over the years, I have an amazing gift of getting in trouble with the locals). Also, if there are any righteous shops worth visiting on the way, we will be very thankful for the info. To make things more fun, if you are in a club and are willing to offer some company, let me buy you a cold drink, and meet a good ol’ SOB like myself, let me know, it’ll be my priveledge to swing on by and chat with you. I would like to ride in no-helmet-law states for as much of the trip as possible (I get enough of that dog bowl on my head in California). Now for the difficult part: if there are any areas you think we should keep out of or pass through very very fast, feel free to warn us! If there are any groups of people roaming free with the buffalo that we should stay away from, give us a clue so that we don’t get our arses kicked for nothing! I would also appreciate any information you can give me regarding gun laws in each state (carrying it on the bike; concealed, not concealed) Well, that is all for now, my email is zabba_zabuka@hotmail.com. Thank you, Zabba has spoken, therefore he is! http://www.geocities.com/zabba_zabuka/0621200 Zabba has spoken, therefore he is!

Hi Zabba

A little bit of research using Google or another search engine will get you lots of information to plan your trip.

For example, see this site which provides a graphical view of helmet laws by state, referencing the statutes in each state:

http://www.sasnet.com/bro/states/50state.html

On the question of weapons, the NRA has quite a lot of information. See this link for a good overview 'Guide to The Interstate Transportation of Firearms':

http://www.nraila.org/GunLaws.asp?FormMode=Detail&ID=59

On a lighter note, our own links page has some links to motorcycle friendly accommodation in the US:

Check out the following:

Casa de Koshare, "Motorcycle Friendly B&B in historic Corrales, New Mexico. 15 minutes from the intersection of Interstate 40 and I25 in New Mexico, USA" http://www.casadekoshare.com/

Two Wheels Only in Suches, Georgia: "T.W.O. is the first resort of its kind, developed by a motorcycling family in 1982, for the pure pleasure of other touring motorcyclists. T.W.O is in the Chattahoochee National Forest. Hiking, white water rafting, river tubing, horseback riding, rock climbing, canoeing, and canyon exploring are all within a short distance. " http://www.twowheelsonly.com/

29 Dreams MC Resort: "A haven for motorcyclists, nestled in the foothills of the Southern Appalachian Mountains, 29 Dreams is located just south of Birmingham, Alabama on scenic Highway 25"

BTW, you're best off NOT putting your e-mail address in your posting, since it can result in getting spammed by the automated programs which trawl the web looking for e-mail addresses. People can e-mail you by clicking on the symbol http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/email.gif .

Also, the link to your site gave me an error message, so you might want to check that.

Good luck with your trip planning.
