I traveled from the arctic circle to montana in 2004. I spent less than 12 days traveling and had a good time with some interesting interactions with other people. Other travelers consider a month to be rushing it. Stop by dawson city if you get to the yukon, and from dawson city it is only about 400km up to the arctic circle. If you travel in late sept. you will be in some below freezing temps. Montana is great in sept. with perhaps a early snow in the mountains. By the way Dec 11 it was 59 degrees F. here in Helena Mt. and last night it hit 8 degrees F.

The "backroads" way would be Tok to Dawson City via the top of the world Highway, down through Whitehorse, then turn off the Alaska HWY just before Watson Lake and head down via Dease lake and Smithers to Prince George. Over to Jasper and down the Icefields Parkway. Through Radium to Cranbrook and over to Crowsnest pass to Waterton lakes Park...12 Days ought to do it travelling almost every day.Cheers
