Hi

My wife went to visit her dad in Ontario a couple of years ago and just used Canadian Dollars and occasional mastercard. She got the dollars here in UK from the post office before leaving but plenty of places over there to exchange if more needed.

Happy travels..

Plastic or cash

Most places in Canada will accept Visa or Mastercard with lesser numbers accepting American Express. We have a wide interact/plus network so obtaining cash from a machine is not usually a problem. Avoid travelers cheques as the system is out dated here and they tend to be a bit more of a hassle.

Have fun

Hi,

Credit cards would normally give you the best exchange rate. Most ATM are member of Plus and Interact Flash, Cirrus, The Exchange, or Accel... I would recommend a Visa, a MasterCard and your Bank Card. You can withdraw money or pay with these cards. You might want to tell your banks that you are travelling so they don't freeze your accounts. By the way you have made a reserve payment on hotel, normally they are paid in advance and you can cancel them 12 hours, or 24 hours before your reserved date. Furthermore Hotels will ask you for a credit card number when you will sign in and they will withdraw the amount of your stay from this card.

Have a great trip. If you are in the Ottawa area, and want to have a with some locals let me know.

ATM and Credit cards such as VISA/Mastercard are used in most retail stores, gas stations, restaurants, etc.

Canadian cash is good, of course. It might be a bit hard to exchange US currency away from tourist areas, and other currencies you'll really only be able to exchange at banks and exchanges.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
