A5 Route info

Im coming up from Niger in a few weeks and the A5 route looks interesting. Can anyone give me some info before I try to get Chris' route discription. Im traveling unsupported by moto and fuel range is no problem. My concern is whether there is reliable wells and if the route consists of "beucoup sable".

Thanks

Hi Sharon,
A5 from Hassil bel gebbour to Illizi is fine on a bike. I did it in 92 with an XT600.
Wells: a good one Hi. El Hadjadj (Ain... on the maps) in the middle, Hi.Tabelballet and Hi.Touskrine about northern 1/3 .

Some wadi crossings (dry) in the southern part could be a little bit tricky (especialy when it's raining ;-) Dune crossings at southen tip of Erg Issaouane ist easy. Same applies to the northern crossing arround Gara Khanfoussa - if you have fat tyres, a strong bike and some experience witt sand driving. There is some traffic on this piste, but better not drive solo.

Bye, Yves

I'm also interested by this route especially if the Aguid->Hbg is forbidden .
Is it easy with a 4x4 ? beautiful ? How much time for the travel beetween Amguid and Illizi ?

Roro .

both HBG-Illizi and HBG-Amguid were open 3 weeks ago having been closed from HBG to BOD over Christmas

Does anybody knows if the dune crossing around Erg Issaouane and Gara Khanfoussa can be done with an old and heavy 4x4 Magirus truck? It has a strong engine but not so much horsepower. I can't make speed in lower gears.
Thanks, Bram.

Amguid piste is open and very nice. We had a lot of pushing of our Renault 4, but it was great, better than Tam-Arlit. I can recomend it.
