Hello,

Many people use Open source maps which are available free and can be downloaded onto a Garmin Sat Nav. However Tomtom now do a Map for india, Sygic have maps for Iran and Pakistan available on a Android gps device such as a Samsung Galaxy phone or Tab. They also do a dedicated gps unit called Trakker Nav. I would post the links but unsure if that would be classed as advertising, maybe someone can advise if I can post the relevant links. You can also purchase a full map for Iran from a third party developer for the Garmin. It has good demo of it on Youtube.

I have not tried the maps yet, However I will be doing trip very soon and the setup I will be using is getting a Garmin Sat Nav and dowloadign the open source maps onto SD Card. I will be also purchasing the Sygic maps. Then When I am out there I will be able to try both and see how much difference there is from free to paid. Also it will be as back up incase the Open Source are terriable. I have heard from others getting lost in Iran with the open source maps and had to ask locals for directions.

Will be abit of trial an error, but when i did my research majority of the people said in Pakistan there is usually only one road to the direction you are going so its not hard to find your way around.

Hi blessing 786,

I have to apologize: my original post missed the word "map". I´ve amended it meanwhile.

I use a Garmin Zumo and I´m looking for a (free) maps.

For most countries I use the OSM as a "plan B" , since it´s only for very few countries the best one.

I just downloaded this one: MapmyIndia_V7_UL
Maybe anybody has experience with it?

Any other recommendations are welcome, too.

Cheers

Panny

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
