World Mapping Project now available in digital format

Seems Reise Know How/World Mapping Project maps are now also available as digital calibrated maps for OziExplorer, Fugawi, TTQV and PathAway format. These are the same general country maps that are sold as Rough Guide waterproof paper maps by Rough Guide, but choice is much wider.

I personally like bitmap/paper maps much more than Garmin-like vector basemaps. I'm dreaming of high quality 1M + 250K hybrid road-topo map in bitmap format that covers entire planet.

You can use PDA with built-in GPS module (Like Fujitsu-Siemens Pocket Loox N-series) instead of ordinary hand-held GPS. Then you can load software like PathAway or OziExplorer that allows you to use digital maps. PDA is much more flexible than usual GPS but it is not very robust, requires some more knowledge and effort.

Thes maps are like photos of paper maps - they contain additional information (geo referenceing) that says the lat and lon, proijection stuff like that. You can use these without a GPS .. just like the paper maps .. Being digital means you can store them on a memory card - lots of maps on one small card .. I've even washed a card and it still worked afterwards .. cannot say teh same for a paper map..

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
