Which GPS for Morocco/Algeria & Tunisia?

I currently have a TT Rider 1 with the European maps & it would obviously keep my budget down if it was ok for the trip. Is it up to it, or should I go for something else? (my buddy is planning to buy a Garmin, so having two different units might be a good idea..)

Re Garmin I reckon the best systems for rough terrain are the Map60CSx or, more expensive, the 276/278 models. But basically the Zumo should do the job as well.

When it comes to maps, take a look at the following web site: GPS Vector Map Morocco

Apart from that, Tim Cullis has posted lots of useful info on the HUBB regarding Morocco. Check his posts - there you'll find another link to a Morocco "knowledgebase". Great infos.

Ditto what Vaufi said. Garmin is pretty much the standard format for this sort of travelling. The 60CSx and similar units are well spec'd and rugged units - the only minus is the small screen size.
I'm using a 276c which is the business - large high resolution screen and every feature you could ever want. Only downsides are the price and it's not the easiest to operate.
The Zumo is bike specific and the latest versions have plenty of features and are very easy to use - closer to what you're used to with the TomTom. For most people it's the best all round model, and prices are coming down all the time.
In your position I'd look at selling the TomTom on ebay and shopping around for a Zumo. All Garmins use the same format for routes, waypoints and trackslogs, so there won't be any problem sharing data with your friend whichever model he goes for.

Maybe this site ( Le Web Bazar !!! Applications Tomtom !!! ) is helpfull for you when you want to use your Tomtom 1 offroad.
I asked Tomtom support if they have North African maps and at this moment they don't have them.
