What's the biggy about the basemap?

So a Garmin 60Cx costs £360 in the UK but £260 in the US... and the only difference is that the US one has a US implanted basemap whereas the UK one has a Europe basemap.

But if you are doing a RTW trip then the Europe or US map is useless anyway as you wont be using the basemap of either of those regions. And you have uploaded the local maps via mapsource anyway.

So even though I'm in the UK I might as well get the US one and save £100 and head off to Africa.

So what's the use of having the Europe basemap in Europe anyway....you are half a mile inaccurate anyway.

...or am I missing something?

Nope.
I think they only provide the basemap to justify the price...
I bought my 276c in the us and saved a bundle over the UK/EU price.
Bought two 256meg chips at €60 a pop and loaded them with Worldmap segments and European City Nav segments.

Basemap never comes into it.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
