What kind of Gps Tracker do I need to use?

Hi guys,

Soon I will head off for my 6 month adventure!
I want to track down every single stage I will do on a daily basis.
I know there are small and cheap GSP Tracker in the market, and I want to buy the one which allows me with a usb plug-in to download the route on Google Maps and which has a battery lifetime for 500km (6hours).

Which one would you suggest me to buy?
I know there should be some at around 50 euros.

Many Thanks,
Alessandro

Waste of a GPSR if all you're going to do is look at where you've been before IMO. Why not get a GPSR that shows you where you are, and also stores a reack log?

GPSR = GPS receiver

Proably cheaper options, but something like this: https://buy.garmin.com/en-GB/GB/outd...prod87768.html can tell you where you are and stores tracklogs

Or you could get a Delorme inReach. It saves your tracks to an online map so that friends/family and whoever you give the password to can follow your travels pretty much live-time, proving some reassurance.

It's more than just a tracker though. It provides for SMS messages via satellite so that you can stay in touch when out of range of cellphone signals. It also has an SOS button to summon emergency assistance to your exact location.

AA Lithium batteries last a couple of weeks at least. You have to pay for a subscription though, for the period you are actually using it.

Just another option to consider, depending on your needs.

Holux M-241

Hello.

Been lurking here for a while... & decided to join up so I could throw my $.02 in...

I've been using data loggers for about 4-5 years now. And I admit, once I found something that worked for me.. I mostly stopped looking..

First off.. I'll assume you have discounted using your smartphone for whatever reason as a data logger.. Don't have one.. poor GPS reception, battery life.. mysterious program crashes.. etc. All are vaid & reasonable reasons.

The data logger that I really like is the Holux M-241

Holux Technology, Inc. | Product

It's just the right size ( a little bigger than a old style roll of 35mm film ). I just use the lanyard to tie it off to the outside of my backpack.

Runs 10-12 hours on 1 AA battery ( can be powered by USB )

Good GPS reception ( good enough to work though an airplane window from 1-2 seats away )

Plenty of memory. It will store 130,000 datapoints. If you run it 1 point per second that gets you about a day and a half.. But that is serious overklll. You can have it log by time.. Every 1, 5, 10 etc etc seconds.. Or, by distance traveled 50 feet & up. Using the log by distance setting you can have good track accuracy & the memory can last a week to weeks..

Has a LCD screen & backlight to tell you what it is doing.. Where you are, your speed, direction. Though, I have mostly used it for hiking/City walking.. The screen is probably too small to read & get useful info as you go.. But at least you will know it is on.. and tracking.

It's not too expensive.. About $70 (USD ) from ebay.

Only one downside.. There is a weakness in the electrical contact on the battery door. I had the clip come off on my first one.. On my 2nd one I put a small dab of epoxy on the 2 spots where the clip is 'welded' to the battery door.. No problems in the past 3 years..

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
