Tomtom GPS maps for Argentina

Hi there,
just got a TomTom Rider One as a present from a friend. The bad part of the story is that TomTom seems NOT to have maps for Argentina!!! Can this be correct? Does anyone know an alternative source for getting them? Regards!

GPS for South America

Hi,
As per my previuos post, Tomtom´s only available maps are for Brazil. As they seem to be new and under revision, I WOULDN´T BUY THEM: Imagine driving your bike directly into a slum! (favela). I was told Garmin has good maps for S.A. I recently saw one from Buenos AIres and it was extremely accurate! BTW I live in Buenos Aires, should you need my assistance, get me at my cell: (011) 1551827277.

forget about it!

JUST GOT A REPLY FROM TOMTOM: THEY DO NOT HAVE (NOR WILL, IN THE NEAR FUTURE) HAVE MAPS FROM SOUTH AMERICA. THE ONLY COUNTRY THEY HAVE SOMETHING FOR IS BRAZIL... BUT SORT OF A BETA VERSION!

Garmin format maps only go on Garmin GPSes. Mapsource only works with Gramin maps and Garmin GPSes

The same can be said for other GPS manufactures - Magellans only take magellan format maps ... TomTom etc etc .. they do not go staright across! Conversions can happen .. but they are usually through some intermediate format .. like polish format ..

Dear Neurodoc,

Do you know where to download garmin maps for Argentina, Garmin themselves don't seem to have them. I am thinking about buying a nuvi in Europe and then download the maps here.

"World Maps' exist for Garmin and Magellean (sp?).
For Magellean there is one - from Magellean).
For Garmin there are two - one from Garmin the other from Smelly Biker - 'Wanderlust World Map'.

Note "World Maps' tend to lack detail and accuracy that you might expect, but if you think of a paper map than represents the world then you find they have excellent accuracy and detail - ... In some palces they are even better .. in others they are a rough guide.

Gramins .. I think they tend to have more 'free' maps avalible on the web that the others .. but some of the free maps need some work by you to make them work well on the PC.
