Through Africa with Garmin 60CSx + laptop?

Hello,

I am wondering about a way to handle maps on a trans-Africa motorcycle journey. I will use OpenStreetMaps (or Garmin maps for some areas) on this mighty little device. Will I manage with navigation if I upload all the maps on a large memory card in the device? Or is taking a netbook/laptop for handling maps and routes necessary for a long, 3 month trip? What are your recommendations?

Buying a netbook, however probably useful for communication on the way, would be another item in my tight budget and another thing to look after.

Best regards!
