Zumo 220 - how good

I am sure the Zumo is as good/bad as most other Garmin units, but my question is how good is it for bikes?

The power lead (via USB) looks very exposed, and not at all waterproof in comparison with the 550. Anyone got any views?

I bought my Zumo 220 from Amazon in April.

I'll start by saying; it works. You punch in your destination or one of the many POI and it gets you there, how it gets you there can be changed in the options menu, fastest route, shortest route, avoid motorways ect ect. The touch-screen works very well even with gloves on, the satellite signal is yet to 'drop out' on me and the RAM mount is solid with no movement or vibration, although mines does sit behind a fairing.

The only thing it didn't like when i got the 220 was the lack of instructions, it took me a few days to get my head around it, for example the SD card slot behind the battery, is this where I load additional maps and is this how I load photos on to view in the picture viewer? Another thing, MapSource thank God for Google and YouTube.

Also in the box you get a car suction mount and 12v charger as well as the lead for connection to you motorbike battery so it covers all bases for me.

FYI I paid £255 for mine and not £315 they are looking for now, hang around as they seem drop in price!!

Looks like a baby version of the 660, except for the power supply: via USB cable! How will this stand up to water & vibration?

I done a 400 mile round trip at the weekend with the zumo and drove through hours of rain on sunday with the zumo on charge. The USB cable is held in place by the mount and not once did it manage to wriggle free, when not charging there is a rubber cover which you slide over the USB to keep the rain out.

A couple of pictures, first one is how the USB cable is held in place while on the bike, the mount holds it in place;



The second one is the cover which protects the USB from the elements while not in use;

Yes very much so, as i said earlier i drove through hours of rain at motorway speeds and no problems

Hi Framkay,

Could you tell me where you got your USB rubber cover from?

I hope you dont say it was in the box :S

I've had my Zumo for about a year and love it just wish i could find somewhere that sell's these covers

Sorry mate it was in the box with the cable, however i have looked the the Garmin website and it looks like you'd have to buy a new cable;
