ZUMO -off the beaten track??

g,day all

Does anyone have experiences with the garmin Zumo in an offroad sense, i am considering buying one of these units for a trip to Canada/Alaska next year and still like to go bush when i can.
Still dont know if the unit does breadcrumbs like my previous garmins.
It seems that they can load and even overlay topo maps into the unit.
On the zumo forum website the is talk of a new model coming out the 600/650

Any info would be great
Cheers

Hey Gazza
The 550 Zuma and it's std mounts are tough, mine stayed in the holder after a crash at over 100kph. Plotted the whole crash on the trip data so I could download it for proof. Interesting mess of lines it recorded.

Leaves a breadcrumb trail if you so desire, handy for backtracking. Fuel gauge is very handy, but would of liked a ambient temp readout. SD card is great for sharing routes between GPS users.

Is anyone aware if there is a reverse route function hidden away somewhere??

No reverse route function on the unit. You need to use Mapsource on your PC to be able to do that.

Now Glen if you had bought a BMW instead you would have had all of those functions as standard!!!!!

Sorry Ken I couldn't bring myself to pay double the money.

On another note you must be counting down the days 'til you leave.

Are you free this Friday afternoon, drinks and food at the Breakfast Creek Hotel 'til we drop. Be there, I need to say goodbye and shout you a round or two! Let me know if you can make it.

PS have you packed that spare drive shaft?

Glen

Spare bike already packed in the panniers- so who needs a drive shaft? Only 15 more sleeps to go and I'm off!!

Sorry mate I am in NZ at the moment- get back on Sunday. I will be putting on a BBQ and drinks on Sunday 13th April. Hopefully you and the better half can be there. I'll ring you when I get back.

Kenny

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
