OSM maps to Garmin..... POI's

Hi...southbound1 here, and new to this... i made OSM maps and loaded them on micro SD cards.... i put the maps (using a SD adapter) into my four year old Nuvi260W, went to tools, system, map, info and found the "OSM generic routable" listed. i 'un-checked' the Garmin map and 'checked' OSM.... i scrolled the world for my OSM 'tiles' and found them as a highlighted area showing each tile.... i zoomed in and everything was good.... all the detail and POI's (banks, bus stations, restaurants etc.) showing. (this is in Kazakhstan). GREAT!!!

so, i buy a new Nuvi 50LM with the 5 inch screen, (bigger is better for a moto) insert the exact same SD card and scroll to Kazakhstan. The area of Kaz is not highlighted (like it was on the Nuvi260W) and as i zoom in, the POI's never develope and secondary roads are not named.

i took the OSM SD card to Cabela's and explained the problem.... they tried to help and we loaded the "Kaz" SD card into five different Garmin models and none of them showed the 'tiles' or the POI's.

so why does everything work on my old 260W and not work on the new Garmins?
any help appreciated. southbound1, cincinnati ohio

Hello Southbound and welcome to Horizons.
Try this :
  1. Check that you have created a folder in the root of the SD card called Garmin
  2. All your maps MUST be inside this folder.
  3. You will need to rename each of your map files Gmapsupp1 then Gmapsupp2 and so on. You can only have one called Gmapsupp

They will still show as 'OSM generic routable' in your gps.

Great, but you didn't mention what type of computer with which version operating system you are using?

Apple Mac, say with OSX, Linux, say like Ubuntu or Mint or Pear, or yee old Microsoft windows or indeed something else?

Please be specific as it is important if we are to give the correct advice and not to assume.

We can not read your mind, well, not yet
