a little something to help-:eek2:

Map format information

gmapsupp.img - a supplemental user-added map
this one is the correct format for a micro SD card
It must be located inside a folder called 'garmin'
--------------------------------------------------------------------
gmapbmap.img - is the unit's pre-loaded basemap
--------------------------------------------------------------------

gmapprom.img - is the unit's pre-loaded City Navigator maps
this is the one kept in the unit's own memory (NOT on datacards)
---------------------------------------------------------------------

TIP!
ON DATA CARDS:
you can store many mapsets on an sd card or micro sd- just name them whatever you wish so you can recognise them but the gps will not- so it will ignore them.
When you need a new map-RENAME the chosen file gmapsupp.img making sure you rename the previous one you were using with some other name before doing that else you could erase it!

:smiliex:so many tips- so little time!

As bertrand said

you need to put a file called "gmapsupp.img" into a folder called "garmin" on your SD card.

If you have a zip file, you need to unzip it first on your PC, You should end up with gmapsupp.img. Make sure you note where the unzipped file is sent. Then copy it to a garmin directory on your SD card. Make the garmin directory if it doesnt exist.

Thanks to you all. I,ll give it a go now.

Simon race made it look so simple.:smartass:

jennabusa 29 Apr 2011 08:35

right, i,ve downloaded the map onto the sd card the tiles show on the screen, alls fine till i zoom in to 8mls. on the gps, then it reverts back to the original mapping.?

Toyark 29 Apr 2011 10:15

depending what model gps you have-
you can select or deselect maps -this is usually found in options as it is possible to have different maps visible at the same time-
You can also select level of detail to show-
-Caution- having two maps covering the same area and BOTH enabled can/will cause incorrect nav probs.

different maps contain s different levels of details- zooming in may do so but if there is no data there it may well show nothing!

It seems it could be time well spent to find the manual, settle down with a coffee and read!

jennabusa 29 Apr 2011 12:05

yippee! i,ve done it.

Thanks Bertrand Walter,and Simon.

Its a zumo 550 i,ve now programmed "most detail" in the map options and alls fine.:D
