moroc topo routes

i've finally managed to get the moroc topo map working in mapsource, the problem having been trying to run the registry file when the auto execute had already done it and upsetting the computer.

anyway...

the map shows roads, tracks, towns etc, but does't seem able to map an actual route. what i mean is, when i use the garmin maps and set a route from say, my house to my mates, it works out an actual route. but when i usr the moroc map and plot a route from merzouga to zagora it just draws a direct line.

is this the limit of the map or am i just being a bit thick. i'm happy to "draw" over routes to make my own tracks but would obviously rather not if i don't have to.

any help or tips on using these maps would be greatly appreciated.

cheers in advance....

Is the topo map an overlay or an original Garmin map?

If it is only an overlay over the Garmin Europe map I presume you've got an older map set. On my Europe NT 2009 the moroccan roads aren't routable, but on another laptop I have just installed the version 2010.20, which shows a greater coverage than the 2009 version. AND on the 2010.20 version moroccan roads are routable. But the coverage is not very detailed.

If you're refering to the Moroc stuff from "Island-Olaf" it's not routable (or at least the version I've got isn't: Dec 2007 version). I've found it to be very detailed and accurate and considering it's free, very good value.

Enjoy your trip.

Yep, the older maps of Oaf were only overlays. You might want to try the latest moroccan map which apparently is a vector map. See here.GPS Vector Map Morocco
Now I'm no tech wizard, so I cannot say whether it is routable... :confused1:

If your gps unit has a map, the lines are easy to follow, IMHO.

thats fine. i'm really not sure i'd want to be told "in 500 metres, turn left" in the middle of a piste anyway. would kind of ruin the moment...

i was thinking of it more as being useful for getting accurate distances, quick route plotting etc for trip planning.

been having a lot of fun turning all the routes in morocco overland into mapsource tracks over the last few evenings.

three week trip in planning for (finally) next easter.

If you read the sections in the Knowledgebase in my signature you'll see it's a non-routable map, but I've never found that a problem, just click and drag to create intermediate waypoints.

Michelin 742 has good indications of distances.

Some updated sections for Maroc Topo can be found here.

Last year I was follow this track between Merzouga[Taouz] - Zagora and find them very useful and accurate for off roading

[of course is not routable, but on the piste is very clear if you follow the track on the screen or not]

from here, maybe you will find some other inf., but the track are very nice and good working in mapsource

Download (CZ/EN)

if you need a taste from this track on video..... so go to youtube... search with key "GR2MA" and hit the video named Desert
