Thanks for this; I've always used googlemaps so getting to grips with the garmin's clunky interface could be frustrating. Still, until there is a direct connection between googlemaps and the garmin device, I'll just have to get used to it. The chances of this will be remote, methinks, while google give their maps away and garmin don't.

Never had a problem with Mapsource... I suppose it depends on if you are of the "point and click" generation:innocent:
Are you talking about routeable maps or maps for navigation...

You can use Garmin tracks in GM, using this or this and others

You can also use OSM maps in Mapsource
There are any number of ways to "obtain" free maps

Bob the Smelly Bikers maps should also be on your list.
