Thanks for the site referrral.
Unfortunately, their FAQ is not too informative. I was trying to get the India map. Though I could download the build source, I couldnt get any further - just opens in a large wordpad document.

How does one proceed thereafter?

Some of their maps do open as an image - how is that converted to a file compatible with/downloadable into garmin GPS units?

:confused1:

Cheers,

Arnob

The 'build' is in 'Polish Format' and is, as you have found, in plain text, like C code ... or HTML .. but it is easier to edit with an editor set up for the particular format .. I use Mapedit .. but there are others ..

The 'image' is in garmin format .img .. but you need to let mapsource know about it ... that needs a .tbl file, an .img file .. and you need to adjust the registary entires

They normally list 4 entries on that site .. an 'Image' - the garmin format, a build - Polish format - a well defined public sourced format.

http://cgpsmapper.com/ for the conversion from .mp to img program

See the links for front ends that will do many good thing to help make maps..

There is a lot out there on making maps ..

The India map - is all one level - meaning unless you are zoomed in all the way - it gets very cluttered ... I'm working on it to get a few levels in there ... but it is a big place and it will take some time to do.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
