How to open maps in Mapsource?
 

May be a silly question but having problem opening maps at mapsource.

I don't use mapsource and GPS since nearly one year. I have some maps under "my maps" file. Maps are in .img format. When I try to open them at mapsource it fails.

Can someone explain where I do wrong?

When I try to open/upload a map to mapsource, I make file type .allfiles
When I look other choices I see: .gdp, .mps, .gpx, .loc But my maps are .img.

You can't open single .IMG file in MapSource, you'll need to generate companion files and make references to the Windows registry where MapSource installed map list is stored.

MapSetToolkit program can help you to install single .IMG files into MapSource. Tutorial/documentation links are on the same page. It also needs free cgpsmapper program to generate overview maps.

Note also that many free maps you can get from the Internet are not high quality and may also crash MapSource.
