GPS V & Autoroute 2001?

Does anyone use these together?

I can't make Autoroute detect my GPS. In fact, the options appear to be "greyed out" so I can't click on them. I am due to leave this week, and would much rather use the very pretty Microsoft mapping than MapSource.

Are there GPS and non-GPS enabled versions of Autoroute? I didn't have the Garmin when I installed it.

Cheers.

Have you changed the interface from Garmin to NMEA In/NMEA out? If not, try that. It works fine with my Venture.

Hi clintan, thanks for your suggestion. This is what I get when I try and configure my GPS interface. Is there any way on unlocking it, or downloading the patch? I seem to remember a GPS add-in option for Win 98, but I'm not sure if you can get the same thing for Win 2000 Pro (SP4)...

Did you have the gps connected when you tried to configure? Connect the gps and see to that it has locked on to the satelites then it might work. By the way are you using the serial port or via a serial to usb cabel?

It´s a long time since I did this so my memory is a little bit rusty...

GPS was turned on and connected via the Garmin serial cable.

Looks like I might be stuck with MapSource. Do you know if I can import my tracks and routes to Autoroute, to display them?

Thanks again!

I don´t think that you can import to autotoute. Try the message board at http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/ you might find an answer there.

Good luck!

I think you have to install the GPS "module" separtely, from the Autoroute CD - it's not installed by default, which may be why yours is "greyed out".

Not sure where you're going but there ain't much on Autoroute outside Europe. I have Autoroute and MapSource, but my favourite by far is Memory-Map, which uses "raster" (real) rather than vector maps. Very easy to import/export routes, waypoints, tracks, and you can get a very good deal with half UK coverage of genuine OS 1:50,000 maps. You can also import/scan in and calibrate your own maps, as I've done with part of the Michelin 953. Look at www.memory-map.co.uk. You even get a 3D terrain model included with the 1:50,000 maps - it's amazing! Also available are satellite photos of UK (12 regions cover the country?)

BTW, you can import "points" into Autoroute from an Excel file. Go to File/Import Data. It's a bit basic though! You can't import routes or tracks.

Here's Morocco on Autoroute:
http://www.aslc43.dsl.pipex.com/Moro...occo_route.htm

and Memory-Map (953 scan):
http://www.aslc43.dsl.pipex.com/Morocco/Stops.gif

Note that neither are fully zoomed! You'll notice more detail on the 953 than on the paper version.
