Something's wrong then - I tried and had no trouble - please try again. Start with the first link to download it.

Hello,

for all who use Google Earth Version 7.xx.

Normally GE 7 didn't work in offline modus, but, it works too!

A canadian, Greg Heppenstaller, offers on his homepage a solution how to work with GE 7 offline.

Please read here: Heppenstall GPS Software | Using Google Earth Cache Offline

The discribed file dbroot_cache You will find in this directory:

C:\user\my name\AppData\LocalLow\Google\GoogleEarth\

Earthround regards

Ulrich

SAS Planet

for me, the most useful tool for detailed route planning is a russian piece of software called SAS Planet.

It allows you to view an area only NOT on google satellite images, but also Bing sat images which is less thorough but usually much clearer and more detailed when its there, Yahoo images, several Russian image sources, Google maps, several russian map sources, OSM maps etc ... at any level of zoom you can change the map / image source and see how it compares.

It also has a cache, that stores downloaded sat images for use offline. You can set the program to download a user defined area at a user defined selection of altitudes for use on the road. You could download all of Siberia at high res if you choose.

It imports all manner of mapping files (KMZ tracks, routes waypoints etc).

And its free

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
