try opening them with 'winimage' from here: Gilles Vollant software

or you might be able to burn it directly to CD with nero.

(I assume .img is for disc image, not picture image)

They won't work direct with maposource, they are the end product.. You can 'unpack them' using a collection of complicated software, send map and Cgpsmapper and then a couple more (i ended up giving up)

What .Img files are is a collection of all the maps and waypoints all bundled into one file... as such if you send (one) to your Garmin... you'll see the finished product....

Wrong. These files are not raster image file/s. They are geo referenced vector files for garmin GPSes. And he wants them to 'work' with garmins 'mapsource' program.

The files can be sent to your GPS .. but to get them to 'work' with mapsource you need to generate 2 files - the 'preview' files .. one is a .tbl file the other is another .imj file.. these can be generated with cGPSmapper.

They may autoroute ... however the sucess of this depends on the author of the original .imj file/s and the amount of time they spent doing this .. think of days ... I'd take any autorouting as a guide only.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
