Better than nothing ..

Try using 'World Map' at home to see how good it is.. you'll find it is like having a 1:1,000,000 paper map .. an overview.

There are better maps of India on Maps catalogue but you will need to lear how to use them ... or more correctly how to edit the registary so Mapsource 'sees' them.

Garmin world map for India

Having just completed 5 weeks in Pakistan, I would suggest that World map is tantamount to useless. Certainly no advantage over paper map.
I bought the add on from Smellybiker.com and combining both gave some advantages but it also is deficient at this stage though there is more likelihood of improvements with this software.

If travellers like you send him your tracks then the maps will improve.

---- The problem is good data .. tracks are very good data .. probably 20 metres accuracy (10 metres for the GPS at speed and say 10 meters for the roads width). Satelite data has to be geo referenced .. and has resolution limits .. shadows ...

Pakistan .. been workin on one for there ... trying to intergrate it with India .. 'they' may not like that

I was in India in August/Sept. I saw adverts in the papers for an Indian GPS unit with maps for about €150. Don't know if the maps are by state but it might be worth investigating.

I used the SmellyBiker worldmap and I thought the detail for India was good. Too much data in some areas but in general, OK. We did not get lost on out trip from Wagga to Goa and back to Bombay and Pune.

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
